Carova is a personal digital garage: one place that holds everything about your cars — service history with receipts, mileage, maintenance schedules, and costs — and an AI assistant that can answer questions from that history in plain language. The tagline is "your car, explained," and this post is a walkthrough of what that means in practice.
The problem Carova is built for
Car ownership generates a steady stream of small facts that matter later: when the oil was changed and at what mileage, what that brake job cost, which warning light flickered last winter, how many miles you actually drive a month. Those facts usually scatter — receipts in a glovebox, dates in a mechanic's system, mileage in nobody's memory — and the scattering has a price. Services get missed or duplicated, warning lights get guessed at, and when you sell the car there's no history to show for years of diligent care.
Carova's premise is simple: capture each of those facts once, in the moment, with as little friction as possible — and then do useful work with them automatically.
What's inside
Car profiles
Each car gets a profile — make, model, year, and the details worth keeping like VIN and license plate — and everything else in the app hangs off it. Multiple cars each keep their own history, schedule, and stats, with a dashboard view across all of them.
Service records, with the receipts attached
Every service — shop visit or DIY — becomes a record with a date, the odometer reading, a category (oil, tires, brakes, and so on), what was done, what it cost, and where. You attach the invoice or receipt photos directly to the record, so the proof lives with the entry it proves. The result is a chronological, searchable timeline per car: the complete story, organized in one place.
Mileage tracking with trend predictions
Maintenance runs on mileage, so Carova makes odometer updates nearly effortless: type the number, or photograph the odometer and the app reads the value from the image. From your readings it learns your actual driving rate — your real miles per month, not a generic average — the number that turns "due in 2,500 miles" into a date you can plan around.
Maintenance schedules and smart reminders
You set up each maintenance item once — by mileage interval, by time interval, or whichever comes first — starting from templates for common services or your own custom entries. Carova then computes each item's status continuously from your last service record and current mileage: upcoming, due soon, or overdue. Reminders adapt to your driving pattern, so a quiet month and a road-trip month move your due dates the way they should.
Warning lights, explained in plain language
When an unfamiliar icon lights up on your dash, ask. Describe the light to your car's AI assistant and it explains what it means and how urgent it is — so you know within seconds whether you're looking at "check tire pressures this week" or "pull over now."
Cost tracking
Because every service record carries its cost, spending analysis comes for free: totals by month, year, and lifetime, and a clear view of what each car really costs to keep. It's the data you need for budgeting — and, eventually, for the keep-it-or-replace-it decision.
The AI assistant that knows your car
This is the piece that ties the rest together. Each car has a chat, and the assistant answers with your car's full context — service records, mileage history, schedule, and specs. Ask "when was my last oil change?", "how much have I spent on brakes?", or "is my car ready for a long road trip?" and the answer comes from your own history, not from generic advice. It's the difference between searching a forum and asking someone who has read your entire file.
What Carova is not
A few honest boundaries, so expectations land right:
It doesn't plug into your car. There's no OBD dongle requirement and no automatic telemetry today — you log mileage and services yourself, which the photo-based entry keeps down to seconds. (Deeper vehicle integration is a direction we're exploring; anything that ships lands on the changelog first.)
It doesn't replace your mechanic. The assistant explains, contextualizes, and helps you plan; diagnosis and wrenches remain human work. What Carova does is make you the well-documented customer every good mechanic prefers.
What it costs
Right now, nothing. Carova is in closed beta, and every feature is switched on for beta drivers — unlimited cars and service records, mileage trends, adaptive reminders, and the AI assistant — with no card required. Post-beta pricing genuinely isn't decided yet; when that changes, it will be announced on the changelog before it reaches anyone's account.
Getting started
Setup takes a few minutes:
Request an invite and create your account.
Add your car — the basics take under a minute.
Log your current mileage, and add whatever recent service history you have (old receipts are worth entering; photograph them before they fade).
Set up your maintenance schedule from your owner's manual — once.
From there the app does its quiet work: your timeline grows with each logged service, your reminders track your real driving, and your car's history becomes something you can search, question, and one day hand to a buyer.
If that sounds like the system your glovebox full of receipts was always trying to be, request an invite — and if you try it and something's missing, the feedback board is where Carova's roadmap gets argued about. We read it.
