What we are building toward in the first Carova release

Most people do not avoid car maintenance because they are careless. They avoid it because the whole thing is opaque. A light comes on and you do not know whether to pull over or finish your week. A shop quotes a number and you have no way to tell whether it is fair. A service is due and nobody told you.

Carova exists to close that gap. We are now working toward the first full release, and this is what is in it.

Know what your car is telling you

Describe the light to the assistant — the shape, the color, whether it is flashing — and Carova tells you in plain language what it means, how urgent it actually is, and what to do about it. No manual, no forum threads, no guessing whether the amber one can wait.

Know what your car needs next

Factory service intervals assume an average driver, and almost nobody is one. Carova tracks your odometer readings, learns your real driving pattern, and moves your reminders accordingly. Short city trips and long highway runs wear a car differently, and your reminders should reflect that.

Know what you have spent

Every service you log builds a history that stays organized and stays yours. You can see your spending patterns over time and check a quote against what similar work has cost you before — and the whole record stays yours, whether you sell the car, switch shops, or just want to look back.

Ask anything

The assistant is the piece we are most excited about, because it is the one that knows your specific car. Not a generic chatbot with a search index — one that has your maintenance history, your mileage, and your vehicle details, and answers accordingly. "Is my car ready for a long road trip?" is a question with a real answer once the system knows what you have done and what you have not.

What we are still working on

The core is in place and the closed beta is underway. Between here and the full release, we are focused on:

  • Broader vehicle coverage, especially for older models and non-US markets

  • Sharper warning-light identification across more dashboard designs

  • Deeper history in the assistant's answers

  • The help center, which is going to be properly written rather than an afterthought

When

We are not going to give you a date, because we do not have one we would trust.

The honest position is this: the release happens when the vehicle coverage is broad enough that most people who sign up get accurate answers about their own car, not a polite apology. That is a data problem more than an engineering one, and data problems resist scheduling. We would rather ship late than ship a version that confidently tells you the wrong thing about your brakes.

What we can say is that the beta is running now by invite, it is free, and everything you log during it carries over.

Help us get there

If you are already using Carova, the single most useful thing you can do is tell us where it falls short — a light it misread, a vehicle it does not know, a reminder that fired at the wrong time. The feedback board is the fastest route to us, and it genuinely reorders what we work on.

The rest of the way there gets written down in the changelog as it happens.
